What is Orange Elephant Press?
Established in 2025, Orange Elephant Press is a media imprint of writer, teacher, and activist Jenny Blanchette.
Orange Elephant Press is dedicated to empowering disabled and neurodiverse artists, educators, and their allies to build understanding, challenge stereotypes and encourage inclusivity.
Why Orange Elephant?
Have you ever heard the phrase, “the elephant in the room?” It’s used to describe a glaring issue that no one wants to discuss.
On the other hand, the term “white elephant” describes something burdensome, costly, or simply more trouble than it’s worth.
Unfortunately, when you are disabled or neurodiverse, sometimes, you just feel…
like an elephant.
Many of the challenges in our community – acceptance, access, and inclusion – are incredibly obvious,
but most people don’t talk about them. Instead, they assume it’ll be an unnecessary hassle, too expensive, or just one more “thing.”
The thing is, we’ve been here all along. In the neighborhood, the bookstore, the coffee shop… if you get to know us,
our history, our perspective — you’ll learn we are far from a burden or a blank page.
We are creativity. We are technicolor. We are joy.
We are Orange Elephant!
