Have you ever heard the phrase, “the elephant in the room?” It’s used to describe a glaring issue that no one wants to discuss. On the other hand, the term “white elephant” describes something burdensome, costly or simply more trouble than it’s worth.
Unfortunately, when you are disabled or neurodiverse, sometimes, you just feel…
…like an elephant.
The many challenges around acceptance, access, and inclusion in our community are incredibly obvious, but most people don’t talk about them. Instead, they assume it’ll be an unnecessary hassle, too expensive, or just one more “thing.”
Thing is, we’ve been here all along. In the neighborhood, the bookstore, the coffee shop…. if you get to know us, our history, our perspective you’ll learn we are far from a burden or a blank page.

OEP publishes a variety of fiction, non-fiction, YA, and picture books written by disabled & neurodiverse authors. We’re seeking works featuring authentic characters who represent our community with honesty, pride, and excitement.
Courses & Trainings
Taught by subject matter experts, our courses take a deep dive into the history, personal perspectives, bias, and barriers of the disabled and neurodiverse community. Learn practical steps to dismantle outdated language, ableism, and prejudice in your organization and community.
